12 Favorite Soups and Stews
My theme for recipes this month is Comfy Cozy January. With that in mind, I’m bringing you all sorts of recipes to warm up with. Muffins, soups, stews, cobblers, and more!
Of course, we are experiencing a whole new level of cold today in Alabama so I have soups and stews on my mind. Here are a few of my favorites!
A savory soup version of stuffed peppers, and it only has to simmer half an hour before it’s ready!
This chowder came about when I combined all of my favorite flavors in one pot 🙂
There is a secret ingredient in this stew that gives it a punch of flavor!
Some people call this Brunswick Stew. A lot of bbq joints in the south serve it during the cold winter months because two of the main ingredients are pulled pork and bbq sauce! You can easily substitute chicken for the pork, though.
I love potato soups of all kinds, but THIS is my favorite.
Spicy, Cheesy, Wonderful.
Simply Delicious Chicken And Rice Soup
This soup is simple to make and absolutely delicious. It’s one of those comforting meals you can throw together in the time it takes to cook your rice using a store bought rotisserie chicken, or you can do it the long way and cook the chicken yourself. The ingredients are few, but they are enough to give it a wonderful flavor that will have ‘em coming back for more.
This is our family’s chicken stew recipe. We make it whenever we think about it, which is often. Because it is that good.
This is in my crock pot right now and when I finish this post, I’ma gonna go get me a bowl!
I have actually had folks complain that this soup was too simple. Then they try it. And they hush. The end.
If you’re hankering for an all around good tomato soup to go with some gooey grilled cheese sandwiches, this is it.
Ready in fifteen minutes and bursting with flavor!
This is part of my “Bags To Dishes” Series. Click here to learn more about those and see all of the recipes in the series so far.
I am not big on going out to eat but when I do, I usually want to go to Olive Garden just to get this soup! (The rest of the time, I want to go to Cracker Barrel). Pair it with Tuscan House Dressing from Kraft and some warm breadsticks (heat and eat from the freezer) and you’ve recreated my favorite “out to eat” meal!

Made the stuffed pepper soup. Very good. However I did not have any chili powder and I bet it would be better with it added. I did not find the 3 pepper blend at my store but bought the fajita mix which had red & green peppers + onions. Will make this again!
Christy, I want to tell you about a SHORTCUT I found for old-fashioned banana pudding, just like you have on your blog. My kids/grands insist on it for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but they rarely get it the rest of the year because it’s so time consuming…you know, all that stirring and stirring. You may already know this, but I didn’t, sooooo….
Instead of all that stirring, you can use Bird’s Custard Powder, available on Amazon. I used it for Christmas this year and my family couldn’t taste the difference. (Actually, I thought of trying it because this used to be called banana custard pudding in my old cookbooks.) Instead of following the package directions exactly, I’d recommend stirring every 30 seconds after the first 3 minutes. Otherwise, it boils over.
I hope you find this info useful. Reminds me of your shortcut recipe for Butter Roll, another old fashioned favorite of mine.
I enjoy your posts and recipes so much. You always have such good stories and inspirations to share. You are a blessing.
I finally got your last cookbook. Kept looking for it in Barnes and Noble, but never found it. They had your first one, but not the second. My daughter ordered it for me from Amazon. I am enjoying it. I collect cookbooks and read them way more than I cook, but I do love good ones,
May God bless you and our family in all that you do this new year and keep you well and healthy.
Thank you for being such a blessing to many . We love you and appreciate all that you do. Looking forward to your next cookbook. Good luck.
It seems so odd seeing you guys freezing while we are suffering in 100 degree heat but when our turn comes maybe I had better remember some of this yummy food
We love your taco soup recipe.
God Bless You for these recipes, they sound so good with this cold weather we are having. Just what I need after walking the dog, a nice hot meal.
