I’ve had a GREAT week drinking more water! The difference is pretty profound, both in my performance level and in my wallet. I ended up drinking about 80% less carbonated beverages and actually found myself craving Crystal Light over my usual drink.

The one thing I noticed a significant change in this past week was sleep quality. I have pretty frequent bouts of insomnia, mainly because my mind just won’t shut down: so much to plan, so much to do, so many projects I want to tackle. When I lay down in bed, that is often the only time during my day that I have a bit of quiet with my thoughts so they tend to take over.

This past week, however, I slept deeply every single night. It was stunning. I’m not sure if this was due to being properly hydrated for the first time in a decade or more, but since that was the only change I made, you gotta wonder. Also take into the account the amount of caffeine I normally ingest versus drinking only Crystal Light and I feel pretty confident the water made the difference.

I did fall off the wagon a time or two and go back to drinking diet carbonated drinks (As a lifelong Alabamian, I can bring myself to say “carbonated beverages” but just can’t form the word “Soda”!) but when I did, I felt at once sluggish as a result. I know this was a psychological thing and I’m not quite sure at what point I decided to go cold turkey to Crystal Light this past week but it did happen at some point and I’m awfully glad I did.

Coming off of a rabid caffeine/carbonation was not easy. Thank goodness for Crystal Light Energy! I discovered the individual packets of this in Wild Strawberry and used them to flavor my bottled water when out and about or to start my day off. They added a bit of caffeine to help me get over the hump.

Will I give up my carbonated beverages? While I don’t see myself giving them up entirely, I have cut down from eight to ten a day (I know, that is an awful number) to one or two a day and my water intake has increased substantially. I am easily meeting or exceeding the 8-10 glass recommendation.

My skin looks better, my energy level is better, my sleep is better, and my overall performance is definitely at a new high – which I’m gonna need!

Water has made a difference and I’m won over.

  1. Well I keep a big jug of Crystal Light lemonade in the fridge. I will open it up and get a glass, more now than before. I take the packets with me when I go somewhere. I figured out that the cost of soft drinks have risen to a tune of 50 cents a can and more, to just 14 cents and some times less per serving of Crystal Light.
    So best way is to go with the Crystal light, and it is better for you.

  2. I have been doing great this past week! I drank much more water and Crystal Light instead of Diet Coke. I haven’t tried the Crystal Light Energy, but I am going to pick some up at the store later today to give it a try. I need all the energy I can get working at home with 2 little ones running around here all day! They love the Crystal Light too — especially the fruit punch!

    Drinking more water definitely seems to help me to sleep better at night. I have suffered from insomnia for a while lately and drinking more water has made a difference! Also, here is a little tip I learned — eat popcorn as an evening snack — it promotes sleep! I swear it works too!!!

  3. Over the past few weeks that I have started consuming more water (I had actually begun before you posted the challenge. I knew that it was better for me, but when you stated some of the statics of how water made up much of our bodies, I felt it was the right thing to do.) I find I now “desire” flavored water and look forward to drinking it.

  4. Drinking water makes me less hungry definitely. If I drink soda & coffee, it gives me quick energy burst but then I crash and feel groggy. I then have to drink more soda & coffee. The highs and lows were too extreme for me. Drinking water keeps me even throughout the day.

  5. I have been on a quest to drink more water for some time. My son has a 60 ounce per day requirement for health issues, and in an attempt to help him see the value, I have made the switch as well. We add Crystal Light stir sticks to a bottle of water (for both of us) and have drinking competitions.

    For me…less carbonation = less tummy aches The carbonation has been ripping up my gut. I feel so much better without it!

  6. Water always makes me feel better. I try to drink 2-3 BIG glasses daily, but with the dog days of summer upon us I’ve been drinking a good bit more water. I’ve noticed that I’ve been falling asleep more easily at night as well and I figure that’s from drinking water versus pop all the time.

    I’m actually headed to the store later today to pick up some more Crystal Light (among other things). I’m in the mood to try something new, so maybe I’ll get a different flavor than I normally would…
