A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

  1. Thank you for that sweet letter. I have lived in the home I grew up in for the last 5 years and everyday I get more mail (junk) for my parents who have gone to heaven than I do for me. 🙂 But I do enjoy being a part of the Southern Plate family. Thank you for your wise words about the Old Testament as well. You are a true treasure. Have a wonderful day.

  2. Hi Christy, I am also missing the thrill of receiving a letter in the mail. That feeling of warm happiness when you recognize the hand who wrote your name and address on the envelope. Sometimes, it was with a haste in your step from the mailbox to your chair where you opened ( maybe with a letter-knife ) the envelope and read the love that flowed from that pen. I have a treasure box where I have saved many of these letters. My mum had passed away five years ago. Some days when the emptiness that she left, gets too much, I open my box and read through those letters and then have a good old cry over times lost.
Thank you for your great page. We are many many miles apart but we share so many similarities in our lives.
Hugs from Suzette . All the way from sunny Cape Town, South Africa.

  3. Thank you Christy for the letter. It is 12:57am here in TX and it is raining outside. God is so good to us. Thanks for everything and God be with you and your family.

  4. Dear Christy, I remember while growing up I would receive letters from my grandmother and favorite aunts and special that was. Now that I am in my eighties I miss those little notes and good wishes and so pleased to get to go back to those days when everything was quite different than today. Everyone is too busy to give a few moments to make a day come alive with special little pleasures as a letter or a phone call. Thank you for thinking of us. My best quote these days is from the prayer that Jesus prayed to Our Father “Thy will be done”. God Bless You till we hear from you again.

  5. Hi Christy,

Thank you for the wonderful letter. How thoughtful of you.

I use to be so good at writing letters and loved receiving them. I miss those days. It is so much easier now to text or email. I do try to send cards, and enjoy doing so. I know how much I enjoy receiving a note from a friend. They always seem to arrive at just the right time. I have some dear friends who are faithful card senders.

Now that I have my beautiful Grandbaby, I am not on Facebook or email as much as I use to. I enjoy being with her whenever I can. She will be one year old tomorrow. I am saving a lot of recipes and ideas from you on Pinterest for us to do together when she is older. Everyone told me that I would love being a Grandmother because they know how much I love being a Mother. They are such precious gifts from God! What joy they bring into my life.

I hope that you are doing well. I know that you are so proud of Brady and Katie. They are amazing children and I have enjoyed watching them grow up.

We love to camp. We took our boys camping often when they were younger. We hope to get our camper going again soon.

I miss hearing about your beautiful Mom! I feel like I know you both, even though we have never met.

God bless you and your precious family.
    Love,
    Pam
