A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

  1. Enjoyed your letter Christy. Your comments about camping brought back so many happy memories of our camping days. My husband passed in 2007 and I really miss him as well as our camping and fishing excursions. We were married for 60 1/2 years.May you have many happy years together. Always look forward to your recipes and interesting stories

  2. Thank you for the letter. I enjoyed it very much. I miss the good old days of cards and letters. May God continue to bless you and use you for His glory. Also keep you and your family in His care.

  3. You are truly right that we don’t have enough of this in our lives. Even though I didn’t print your letter, it was like sitting down catching up with an old friend and it was a lovely feeling!
    Thank you.

  4. I feel this is the one thing of my ‘younger days’ that I miss the most -letter writing (giving & getting). My Mama was the best at it and I have saved a good portion of them (even ones she sent my children that I will be giving to them as keepsakes). I find when I take them out to reread, it brings me to tears, but they’re a sweet reminder of how much she loved all her children and reminds me what a gift from GOD she was to us all.
Thank you Christy- reading your letter makes my connection to you seem more real life- I thank YHWH for you!

  5. That was adorable!!. An old fashioned letter from a friend. I miss those. My cell phone fell in the pool last Friday and I was without communication until Monday. The only thing I missed was texting my daughter everyday since she moved to Pensacola. We depend on technology waaaaayyyyy too much.

  6. Hi Christy,
What a wonderful idea to write a letter to your friends. You have inspired me. I feel like so much is lost in the fine art of letter writing. As much as I love receiving physical mail (that’s not junk or a bill), it just feels so much more personal to touch something that has been written with love. I can’t tell you how much it means for me to go back and look at cards that my Dad had hand written to me, now that he’s no longer here. Thanks for the idea and inspiration.

    Donna

  7. Thanks for the uplift today with your letter. I have been a quiet follower of yours for several years and love your southern recipes. In this day of impersonal communication by web it is refreshing to get a real letter. Thanks for what you do to honor our Lord.
