A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

  1. Thank you for the letter! I loved hearing from you. I’m glad you are enjoying RVing. My husband and I consider doing it, but the term “black water” has me a bit reluctant.

I am one of your group reading thru the Bible. I’m enjoying it so much! I agree that reading Psalms is a wonderful break after Job. Thanks so much for giving us this structure under which we can explore Scripture for ourselves.

I’m an artist, so part of what I miss about the end of letter writing is the look of a letter – the envelopes, the stamps, the handwriting of someone you love. I think it would be wonderful if we could bring back the lovely practice of writing letters. I’m not sure how we can get people to slow down and actually write their thoughts on paper the way we used to. It would be great if we could….

Thanks for all you do. You are a ray of sunshine in my day!

  2. I appreciate a hand written letter or card. Thank you for sharing a part of your life with me. Truly enjoyed being able to peep into a part of your life. Bless you.

  3. What a sweet newsy letter Christy. Husband and I used to do a lot of camping in a pop-up…miss those days. Please take full advantage of all the RV’ing you can do… times flies and one day will only be a sweet memory. Lost my husband one year ago so life is very lonely. This letter was a nice pick-me-up. Thank you for the sweet bits and pieces that you do share with us! We are indeed blessed.

  4. I love letters! I started pen paling two years ago, and I really enjoy writing and exchanging letters in the mail! Such fun to see what is waiting for me in the mailbox. Thanks for the letter!

      1. Thank you so much Christy for your letter AND for thinking of us. You are so special and so talented in so many ways. This old 80 year old from Vicksburg, Ms loves you AND your easy Southern recipe. I really enjoy your stories and with you sharing with us. God bless you and your family.

  5. Thank you for sharing your precious time, and your fabulous recipes!
I look forward to every Monday, and Friday!
Allergies! Here in WV the furry stuff from the Sycamore is trees is blowing, and I’m blowing my nose. Nothing like waking up in the middle of the night having power sneezes!
Camping! Love it! I’ve camped all my life, and have some pretty good food storage, prep, and cooking tips.
God Bless you and your family! And thank you for all the smiles you put on my face with your posts, as well as my husband with your delicious country home style cooking recipes.
    Hugs,
    Wanda

    1. Hey Wanda! What a joy to hear from you today! The night sneezes are the worst! I hope this passes for you soon. I’ve discovered this year that my skin is actually itching because of allergies. I’m used to my eyes itching but my skin is a new one. Fortunately, Zyrtec seems to help. I plan on mostly cooking ahead of time or cooking in a crock pot as my main goal while camping is to relax, enjoy the company, and get lost in the Word. I’d love your tips! Thank YOU so much for being here!

      1. Christy,
        Thank you for replying.
That’s my main tip! Cook and prep ahead of time.
I buy my meat fresh, prep and season it, then freeze it. When your ready to go, toss it on ice in the cooler, or in your case the RV fridge. It will thaw safely, and be ready to cook.
I make tuna, ham or chicken salad for sandwiches.
Pasta salad is great for lunches, or sides. I usually make a little potato salad or slaw too.
My favorite camping meal is baby back ribs, just because it’s camping doesn’t mean it has to be burgers, and dogs. So when I prep my ribs before I leave, I rub them with my own homemade rub double wrap them in heavy duty foil, then freeze them. (I’m probably not telling you anything you don’t know…lol)When your ready to cook them all you do is put them on the grill foil and all, on indirect heat for about a hour, turning a couple times. Slit the middle of the foil and test them, if they are done transfer them from the foil to the grill leaving the mess in the foil (I usually take a cookie sheet not only to help with the juicy mess, but to serve them on) once directly on the grill brown both sides, about 5 minutes each, then baste them once on each side with you favorite BBQ sauce baking it in once again on indirect heat, about 5 minutes each side. I serve them with pasta salad, and baked beans, I either make some beans ahead of time, or just pop open a can of Bush’s.

        Hugs again,
        Wanda
