A letter to you
Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

Loved my letter. What a sweet, warm missive. Your blog has long been a favorite and I’m always excited to visit with you and yours. Also really enjoyed(and was sad)reading about your local bbq place. If the pickle folks can’t come to a consensus perhaps chop one flavor and add juice from the other? Walla! A new taste sensation. or make a split batch and have a secret ballot. Gonna be a fun summer.
Love ya girl. You keep writing I’ll keep reading and enjoying. Fondly,Annette
That letter and the thoughtfulness just made my day! I do have a question, how can we send letters to you? For several years I have wanted to send you an old fashioned thank you note for everything you’ve done for me! I’ve been following along since I was 14! Thank you so much!!
Thank you Christy for that Beautiful letter and it was very inspiring. I have made some of your dishes and my fiance loves them, usually I try out new things on him before I share with anyone else, he’s my Test Person, smile.I belong to a group of ladies from my church and we meet weekly to discuss the Bible and a selected book for the time that we meet. We just finished The Daniel Prayer , Prayer That Moves Heaven and Change Nations, by Anne Graham Lotz. The Group is called Greater Shiloh Church , Connect Group, I belong to a large congregation and my Pastors wanted everyone to get to know each other on a more personal basis, it’s wonderful. please continue the wonderful recipes. God Bless You and your Family.
Your letter was warm and informative, just like a letter should always be. I bet if we actually knew your home address, you’d have tons of cards & letters in that mailbox of yours!
Spring in Atlanta is doing its normal roller-coaster ride, one day 72 degrees the next morning 37 degrees….I’ve put away the sweaters, and determined to look positive toward warm Spring sunshine…..already mowed twice, so surely that’s a sign!
Enjoyed your letter…..here’s mine.
Dianne
Thank you for the lovely letter! What a great idea!
I enjoyed reading your letter. We used to RV & always took our 2 little dogs with us. We know longer have the RV, but we have so many wonderful memories & lots of pics. The slow cooker was one of my most important kitchen items. (Would probably be Instant Pot now). I used to prepare & cook as much as I could of main ingredients for recipes & freeze before the trip. I then just put them in the RV freezer or refer, so I could spend more time enjoying the places we visited instead of a lot of time in the kitchen!
I want to thank you for starting Southern Plate & sharing your wonderful recipes with us. Today I remembered a recipe that I saw & wanted to make. I finally found it & it is one you shared with us. “Dinner in A Dish”.
Enjoyed your letter. I remember the days of actual letters coming in the mailbox. Thanks.
