  1. Cornbread drizzled with molasses….not exactly drizzled – more like poured!! That’s our family recipe for cornbread straight from my mother’s 60-year old, satiny smooth skillet.

    1. Cornbread,the real southern one -with buttermilk and a little sugar- was taught to me by my new mother-in-law 45 yrs ago. I was a new bride fromSouthern California and she was a precious housewife fro rural Arkansas. My new husband said” if you go watch mom she will teach you some great recipe’s”! Other words she would teach me how to cook! PERIOD. Well that she did and after years and years I still use her recipes. One thing I did alter is the cornbread. Not a lot! We love okra. One day after I had my cast iron skillet hot for the cornbread I thought of the fresh okra I had,so, I sliced it,rolled it in an egg that had been whipped up then into a small amount of salted cornmeal. I then then put it in the skillet that was sizzling with a little bacon drippings to cover bottom of pan. YUMMY smell! Then poured batter on top and baked as normally did. Took it out where browned ,turned out to dish and okra was crusty and flavored cornbread. A hit!

  2. Cornbread is great! It was funny, we had a potluck dinner at work the other day and I brought cornbread as my contribution. People were so shocked to see cornbread there, and so happy. Such a simple, easy-to-make way to make people happy!

  4. A good cornbread goes with just about anything. Who doesn’t love slicing a wedge in half, watching the steam roll, and yum, can’t you just smell that wonderful aroma? Slather on some good sweet butter. Now tell the truth, doesn’t your mouth water? I can hardly wait to make some.

  5. We love cornbread cooked in cast iron. Nothing beats it. Love using cast iron skillets for all my frying. Would love to add to my collection. Love your recipes and all the info you share.
