Apple Week Begins with these 5 Apple Recipes
Each year on SouthernPlate I have a special week dedicated to apple recipes. This is our grand kickoff of the fall baking season and I always enjoy baking up special goodies as well as seeing what y’all are baking up, too!
I’ll be sharing apple recipes with you every day on SouthernPlate.com, Pinterest, and Facebook, so make sure you tune in and fire up those ovens!
Today’s Apple Recipes:
Old Fashioned Slow Cooker Baked Apples
– Fill your home with the delicious aroma of these apples and folks will come running! Also included in this post is a story from my Grandmama’s childhood.
Apple Skillet Cake
Each bite of this cake is absolutely infused with flavor. Moist and delicious, you make it on your stovetop!
A favorite from Granny Jordan’s recipe files.
Apple Pound Cake
A moist and tender cake studded with apples and just a hint of sweetness. Also on this post is a story about how to be the person you need.
Blushing Apple Juleps
A few years back we had an August photo shoot for Southern Living Magazine. It was hot as blazes and we were dressed for the fall issue of the magazine. As fate would have it, Katy Rose spent most of her time posing in front a pitcher of these apple juleps – but she couldn’t drink any because they’d been sitting out in 100 degree weather all day. The moment we got home, I made her a whole batch of those and she sure was a happy gal! They are still her favorite when she has friends over and special occasions (like tea parties!).
Mama and Grandmama make Apple Dumplings
I can’t even begin to tell you how much we miss Grandmama. She has been gone almost a year and a half now but I can still hear her voice when I read this post. Oh, the dumplings are delicious by the way :).
We love apple recipes! We go every fall to either Mercier Orchards or a small apple house in Cartecay. Then we go to Burt’s pumpkin farm, visit Helen, and just go riding through the North Georgia mountains. Our middle daughter moved to Florida two years ago and is coming home in a couple of weeks and she requested a trip to the mountains that she misses so much!
Oh my goodness, I hope that you have a WONDERFUL visit with your daughter, but I am sure you will!!
Christy, we have an orchard we go to for peaches, grapes pears and of course the apples. It is Crow Mountain Orchard and is close to scottsboro in Fackler, Al. Have already made three trips this year. You need to check it out. We also go to Meciers in north Ga.every year. Just like the other lady said it is awesome. Blue ridge ga is a great little town . Lot of antique stores and of course the train ride. We also visit blairsville ,young Harris , and hiwassi. And elejay. We love the Georgia mountains. You need to take a family trip there.
Thanks for sharing Barbara, I will have to check it out!
I AM GOING TO TRY AND MAKE THEM, ALL.
CANT WAIT. LOVE THE SMELL OF APPLES.
THANKS FOR YOUR FALL APPLE RECIPES. I NEW SO GOTTA TRY EVERYTHING
I hope you enjoy them all Su!!
I’ve bought apples from a NC orchard already so these recipes arrived at just the right time! Thanks, Christy.
I hope you enjoy them Judy!!
Yummy, I can smell the apples cooking already : ))) lol
Me too Rhonda!! Isn’t it such a comforting smell?
We visit Mercier Apple Orchards in Blue Ridge, GA every late October. It is a wonderful place – they have U-Picks all during the year for different in-season fruits. Also, they have a huge bakery loaded with all kinds of home made goodies, a café that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner foods, a gift shop, hard cider room and of course, every kind of apple you would want – depending which ones are “in” when you visit! I highly recommend this place – it is much like the one in Sevierville, TN but not nearly as commercialized! Then on over to the little town of Blue Ridge is a must-see and ride the Blue Ridge train over to McCaysville and back.
Love Meciers and all of the surrounding towns in North Ga.
I will have to check that out Ella! I have a friend that lives near that area and talks a lot about how much she loves Blue Ridge, the train ride and an olive oil store there.
Oh Christy, I cannot believe you did not include your Apple Dapple Cake here! It is just fabulous!
