Biscuit Class – Classic 3 Ingredient Biscuits

Good Morning! Last weekend I got together with a few of my friends who claimed they couldn’t make good biscuits and taught them how to make three different kinds! Everyone’s biscuits turned out beautifully and the great news is that my husband recorded the whole thing so I can bring my Biscuit Classes here to you, as well.

This is the first time we’ve done something like this so there are kinks to work out, of course, but I think this first effort turned out pretty good. We hope to purchase another camera before recording the next series of classes, so you can see my friends off camera more throughout the class. All in all, I think the video makes you feel like you are there, which, for me, is the next best thing to actually having you there :).

  1. Love the video, looking forward to seeing more of them…..flour makes such a mess….I usually just mix my dough and spoon them out on cookie sheet, we like them that way and no mess for me to clean up…..
    I remember my grandma making biscuits using her hand in the dough and then she would squeeze out the biscuits and they would all be perfect shape, then she would take some melted butter or grease and lightly coat each biscuit before baking…..my mother-in-law did the same thing and both their biscuits were great , when I make them and if any left over we would make a sausage sandwich with mustard and yum that was good……. I just wonder if any of your fans remember biscuits being made this way ? Keep up the good work Christy…..

      1. Ah… I’ve seen this done and marveled at the cook’s ability. “Cat Head” biscuits…. bout as big around as a cat head, and that woman could squeeze and pop them out in no time flat. Really helpful if you’re making about a brazillion of them, like at the local gas station snack bar/breakfast joint. Thanks for the visuals, it really helps when we can “see” things being done.

    1. My Granny made her biscuits without measuring or recipe, and they were wonderful with every meal. She shaped the dough in her hands in the bowl, with a kind of squeezing motion. They remained available on top of the stove between meals if any were left over. As a child and teenager, I disappointed her by never understanding units of measure such as,”a dollop” or a “dab” or a “splash”. I have learned to make rolled out biscuits, but it turns out that I excel at sourdough breads instead!

  3. Hey Christie! Loved your biscuit class video!!! Can I pre-make the dough and refrigerate it overnight to do the next morning and still get good results? Thanks so much!

    1. Hey Donna! Thank you so much for watching! I’ve never made the dough the night before and I asked my mother and she said she’d never done it that way, either. I’m not sure if they would turn out as well because a chemical reaction is started when you combine the liquid with the self rising flour and that may be all petered out come morning. Once you get in the swing of it, you can mix these up and have them cut out in about five minutes, so I just make them fresh. I have another biscuit coming up that you may like even more where you just pour all of the batter into a pan, no cutting or patting out or even kneading. I hope this helps!
