FAQ
What can I substitute for cream cheese?
If cream cheese is scarce in your neck of the woods, I have used greek yogurt and it was just as tasty. Other recipes have listed mayonnaise or sour cream as subs too.
What can I substitute for the Crab?
I have made this with little mini shrimp (normally I am not a big seafood fan) and it was divine!
What is imitation crab?
Imitation crab is usually made from white fish. It’s usually made from something called surimi, or white fish flesh. It has the bones removed and minced into a paste. Then it’s combined together with other ingredients including both natural and artificial flavors, starch, sugar, and sodium.
Storage
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Notes
I added some finely grated sweet onion to it, really good!
I tried this recipe and it went well w/ family @ Christmas so I made it again last night for hubby & me. I made 1 alternation to the recipe tho, which I found it made it even better, ( in my opinion,) I used lof fat cream cheese w/ chives. It added a little more kick w/ the chives. But I have too say you’re right about this recipe being better made w/ cream cheese. I would just add to make sure cream cheese is at room temp.
I have rarely liked anything made with artificial crab meat, but will try one more time with this recipe. Hope it will change my mind about the artificial crab.
This looks great, I think I will add a little horseradish and cayenne pepper since I enjoy a little kick in dips!
this looks like a winner. I wish had read the post yesterday when I needed a dip to take to a lady’s group. I’ll be prepared next time.
This sounds so good! I love crab dip and really like that this looks so quick, easy and delicious – recipes I really appreciate right now. I do not like the imitation crab meat and have only used the carton of pasteurized crab meat when making crab cakes. I read the suggestion about not using can crab meat but am curious as to why. I have a can and may take a gamble and use it. I have successfully used it in hot crab dip but want to try a cold dip. Any suggestions? Thank you!!
I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! I usually pass over crab recipes because I can’t afford to buy the crab, LOL. But, this. Finally something I can afford. I guess it’s not freezer safe???
Hi Tru, you are so welcome :). Re freezing, you may be able to get one freeze out of it. Honestly there usually isn’t any left to freeze though!
