I have made this with little mini shrimp (normally I am not a big seafood fan) and it was divine!
What is imitation crab?
Imitation crab is usually made from white fish. It’s usually made from something called surimi, or white fish flesh. It has the bones removed and minced into a paste. Then it’s combined together with other ingredients including both natural and artificial flavors, starch, sugar, and sodium.

Notes
We’ve had crab cakes, crab Rangoons, stuffed crab from Captain D’s, just ordered Crab Rangoon pizza for New Year’s Eve, but never had crab dip. We might have to try this recipe the next time we get a hankering for some crab.
Where did you order the Crab Rangoon Pizza from? My girlfriend had made it and gave me the recipe. She and her sister enjoyed ordering it and then they were moving out of state where no one made it — she had to find a recipe. I haven’t tried it yet, as I would like an original to compare the tastes.
This loooks like the easiest crab dip recipe I`ve ever seen!
I can’t wait to try this! I love crab dip and never thought to use cocktail sauce.
Not a huge fan of crab but LOVE shrimp so will be trying this. What would be some “stable” crackers?
Personally, I do not like crab dip but my family enjoys it. They said the dip was very flavorful and I used the regular cream cheese as I do not like low fat stuff! Thank you for sharing.
Sounds very similar to one my step-mother made with shrimp. She passed before I could get her recipe, so I’ll be trying this one to see how it compares with her recipe 🙂
I have a wonderful crab dip recipe but it is very labor intensive. Can’t wait to try thie one – sounds VERY yummy!
