Deep Fried Ice Cream Milkshakes
Combine the crunchy deliciousness of deep-fried ice cream with the creamy deliciousness of a milkshake for a homemade version of those over-top milkshakes that are all the rage these days… or as I call them, deep-fried ice cream milkshakes.
Have you tried fried ice cream before? It involves ice cream being coated in a batter and immediately deep-fried. The combination of the warm crispy coating and the cold ice cream is so tasty!
Today I’m using the crunchy deliciousness of fried ice cream as inspiration for these over-the-top fried ice cream milkshakes. This is my take on those whimsical freak shakes taking over the world these days and I know they’ll help you get through the heat of summer.
Instead of actually deep frying the ice cream, I’m deep-frying the coating only and adding this to the edge of my milkshake glass and sprinkling it on top as well. It includes a crispy combination of graham cracker crumbs, cornflakes, and cinnamon sugar. Many Mexican fried ice cream recipes include cinnamon sugar in the batter, which is where I got my inspiration! Then we need to make our milkshakes, which are a creamy combination of vanilla ice cream, cinnamon sugar, and milk.
The final touch is adding chocolate syrup to the serving glass and on top with a dollop of whipped cream. Oh yes, these fried ice cream milkshakes are so sweet, rich, and flavorful. Impress your family by going a few steps beyond just throwing ice cream in a blender and get ready for huge smiles of appreciation! After all, if anyone in your life is worth a little star treatment it’s them!

Recipe Ingredients
- Graham cracker crumbs
- Corn flakes (plain)
- Cinnamon sugar (ground cinnamon and granulated sugar)
- Honey
- Butter
- Milk
- Good quality vanilla ice cream
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate syrup
How to Make Deep Fried Ice Cream Milkshakes
In a large bowl, add the dry ingredients: crushed corn flakes, graham cracker crumbs, and 1/4 cup of cinnamon sugar. Stir to mix. Do not crush cornflakes in a food processor. Instead, slightly crush them with your hands.
Melt the butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
Add the cornflake mixture to the frying pan and fry for 5 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from stove and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes.
Pour honey on a plate and dip the rims of each serving glass in it. Immediately place each rim in the fried cornflakes to coat and then set aside.
Add the ice cream, milk, and the remaining cinnamon sugar to a blender and blend until desired consistency is achieved.
Drizzle chocolate syrup inside your serving glasses (on the sides).
Pour the milkshake into each serving glass. Add whipped cream and drizzle more chocolate syrup on top.
Generously spoon the fried cornflake mixture all over the whipped cream. ENJOY!
Storage
It’s best to serve immediately.
Recipe Notes
- While I recommend vanilla ice cream, if you like you can use chocolate ice cream instead.
- Substitute the chocolate sauce for caramel sauce instead.
- Add a maraschino cherry on top for the perfect finishing touch!
