Get out there and enjoy fall together as a family!
Special thanks to Lipton for graciously sponsoring this post and our fun family evening!
This is my absolute favorite time of year. There is nothing like the beauty of changing leaves and introduction of a crispness to the air after a long hot summer to make you want to get out and enjoy the outdoors with your family. I like to switch things up and take supper on the road if an opportunity arises and that is exactly what we did the first weekend in October when my husband took off work a little early and we headed out to the Old Time Fiddler’s Convention in Athens, Alabama.
Instead of cooking supper, we stopped on the way and grabbed our favorite Lipton Diet Green Tea Citrus Flavored Iced Tea. It’s a great alternative to carbonated beverages and the perfect bottled drink for enjoying time with your family while out and about. Being Southerners, we naturally reach for iced tea when it comes to supper anyway. 🙂 Then, we headed on to the festival food tents!
The Fiddler’s Convention is an outdoor music festival with crafts, food, and musicians galore. It’s the perfect place to find a nice spot and sit with your family while enjoying the atmosphere – and a supper that I didn’t have to cook!
Musicians set up all over the grounds of Athens State University and hold impromptu concerts. You can’t walk more than a few feet without coming across a new group playing a variety of instruments and singing along to the tune.
We like to go and stay for several hours but sometimes end up staying all day long.
For us, this “getting out of the house” is so important. I realized years ago that when we are home, in this modern age, are often aren’t really connecting with one another. My husband will end up in his office, I’ll be in the kitchen, and the kids wander off to their rooms. When we all go somewhere together, though, we unplug from all of the distractions of home and really tune into one another. Festivals like this are a great opportunity for moments like that.
They grow up so fast that it is important to remind yourself to sip and savor every moment while you can.
This is a very interactive experience for kids. We were watching a group and Mr John Morgan came along and asked Katy if she wanted to play guitar. Next thing you know we have this wonderful picture of the two of them!
And I had to get in on the fun as well!
As the sun set, we found a seat by the main stage, finished off our tea, watched Riders In The Sky perform, and enjoyed the end of a wonderful afternoon together as a family.
That’s what it’s all about.

Christy,
I surely wish you could see a picture of my husband, Rickie. He and your Ricky look very much alike, especially when my husband was younger.
Oh WOW!! I would love to see one if there is ever a chance for you to share one with me Mary!!
Christy, I love this post, so happy you had fun! I received your new book today. I was so surprised. I had preordered it from Barnes & Noble and they sent me an email today saying it was in so I rushed in to get it. Oh my, it is so wonderful. I flipped a bit through it this afternoon, but am waiting til this evening so I can read every page slowly and savor this last book. I just love it!
Oh my goodness, thank you so much Teresa!!! I hope you enjoy the book and find some new family favorites. I can’t wait to hear what you think after you have had a little time to enjoy it!!
