It’s that time of year again.

Cotton is in bloom…

Apples are being picked

and the last bit of summer is ours for the taking!

and MAYBE sharing.. 🙂

But you know what else is right around the corner? It’s time to start thinking about our Halloween and Harvest costumes! I’ve recently been introduced to a wonderful company called Sensational Beginnings. They are a toy company that offers educational toys, that stimulate the imagination, the mind, and the senses!I don’t know about you, but if I had a dime for every time I spent money on plastic toys that barely outlived the life of the cardboard box they came in, I’d be a wealthy woman today!

I love the toys at Sensational Beginnings and I know you and your child will, too.

As a special offer JUST to Southern Plate readers,

Sensational Beginnings is offering a 10% Discount on all orders over $75.00 through September 20th, at 11:59 PM.

To get this exclusive discount, enter the code SOUTHERNPLATE at checkout. Click here to shop.

I always like to start buying Christmas the moment fall hits and I get it a little at a time to make it more budget friendly, so this is a great opportunity for you to do that.

They also have an EXTENSIVE Costume department. Katy Rose was thrilled when she first laid eyes on this pink super girl costume:

We rounded it out with the Strawberry Shortcake Wig. Of course is Super Girl is Super, it only stands to reason that she’d have pink hair (according to my Katy Rose).

Bradybug will be going the Deluxe Iron Man route this year…

Even though I REALLY tried to talk him into this one – if it was in my size I’d soooooooo be wearing it!

In addition to offering us an exclusive discount code, Sensational Beginnings is also offering an exclusive giveaway!

  1. My favorite toy growing up was the Strawberry Shortcake dolls and their accessories. I still have them today and have them proudly displayed in a curio cabinet. I was so excited when they brought Strawberry Shortcake back just at the right time that my daughter would be at the age to enjoy them. Unfortunately, the new Strawberry Shortcake never gained the popularity it did in the 1980’s and I was disappointed to see that they were poorly made. Several of the dolls that I bought my daughter lost their hair when she tried to gently comb it. The hair would just come out in clumps until the doll had no more hair. She was gentle with them, too. Very disappointing! They don’t make toys like they used to.

  2. Back when i was a child we did not get to many gifts but at Christmas time we did get a Book mind was the Bobbies Twins and my brother was The Hardly Boys i also would received Nancy Drew if i did not get the other one But the Bobbies Twin was like having sisters that i never had. After we got done eating are Christmas meal my brother and I would spend the whole day just reading These are wonderful memories

  3. As a child my favorite toys were the Little people and the Winnie the Pooh treehouse with elevator, Mandy,Becky, and Jenny dolls. The Little people had a camper set with a car, tractor, camper, grill and other accessories. I also enjoyed riding my bike and playing outside. I had a little metal stove with little pots and pans and my mom got a campershell and put over a concrete slab out back and put my stove and table in there for my little kitchen. When I got a little older I took everything inside and made my playroom out of a small school and used my brothers old chalkboard to teach my neighbors how to count and spell. My children always loved the rugrats and their trampoline. They love to read books.

  4. My kids love their blocks. We have every type of block, it seems, and they can create anything with them. I’ve told my husband that I’m staying away from all the plastic, electronic, character stuff for Christmas this year because it never gets played with. I’m only buying things that foster creativity because these are the only kinds of things they play with now. I’ve never heard of this company, but I will be checking it out because it sounds like what I might be looking for….and I shop a little at a time too.

  5. My girlfriend and I would roller skate all day long…you know, the old metal ones with a key and they clamped onto the toe of our shoes…and often came loose, which sent us headlong into the concrete! While skating, we always sang “Skaters Away”! Looooong time ago! Soon after that came Barbie and then Monopoly all-day games 🙂

  6. Funny thing about my favorite toys seems every time I got something nice it either got lost, borrowed or got broken? Amazing how some of my stuff mysteriously disappeared like my new sling shot, my operation game, water guns, my new chemistry set which I had for about 1 hour until I accidently spilt something purple on the carpet (sorry mom), 1 red & 1 silver whistles, 2 harmonica’s & my drum sticks? Then one day I accidently found some of these items kinda stashed way back in my parents closet? Hmm

  7. My favorite toy growing up was etch a sketch. I loved that thing. I could take it anywhere and usually did.
