But you know what else is right around the corner? It’s time to start thinking about our Halloween and Harvest costumes! I’ve recently been introduced to a wonderful company called Sensational Beginnings. They are a toy company that offers educational toys, that stimulate the imagination, the mind, and the senses!I don’t know about you, but if I had a dime for every time I spent money on plastic toys that barely outlived the life of the cardboard box they came in, I’d be a wealthy woman today!
I love the toys at Sensational Beginnings and I know you and your child will, too.
As a special offer JUST to Southern Plate readers,
Sensational Beginnings is offering a 10% Discount on all orders over $75.00 through September 20th, at 11:59 PM.
To get this exclusive discount, enter the code SOUTHERNPLATE at checkout. Click here to shop.
I always like to start buying Christmas the moment fall hits and I get it a little at a time to make it more budget friendly, so this is a great opportunity for you to do that.
They also have an EXTENSIVE Costume department. Katy Rose was thrilled when she first laid eyes on this pink super girl costume:
We rounded it out with the Strawberry Shortcake Wig. Of course is Super Girl is Super, it only stands to reason that she’d have pink hair (according to my Katy Rose).
Bradybug will be going the Deluxe Iron Man route this year…
Even though I REALLY tried to talk him into this one – if it was in my size I’d soooooooo be wearing it!
In addition to offering us an exclusive discount code, Sensational Beginnings is also offering an exclusive giveaway!

My favorite toy as a child was my Barbie dolls! I played with them until I was about 13. I had a huge three-story house that I loved too!
My favorite toy as a child was a doll named Christy. She had reddish brown hair and it grew!!! then you pulled it back in with a string on her back & it would grow again! I was also a huge Barbie fan!
Oh wow this is so neat. My favorite thing was my roller skates. We lived in a small town of about 200 people. There wasn’t much traffic and the sidewalks and macadam road was great skating.
My favorite toy as a child was a baby doll that didn’t do anything at all except, it’s eyes opened and closed and cried when turned back and forth from a little box sewn in it’s stomach. I loved my baby doll and I treated it like a real baby most of the time. It didn’t wet, talk, walk, roller skate, or do flips but to me, it was the best toy in the world because I had to use my imagination.
My favorite toy as a child was a simple rubber baby doll with bright blue eyes with lids that shut when you laid her down. You could move her arms and legs only at the shoulder and hip joints. She did not walk, talk, eat, drink, or anything else, but oh did I love my baby. I dressed her and changed her clothes over and over, walked her up and down the neighborhood sidewalks in a real baby carriage and used my imagination to fill in all the things I could possibly dream of doing for or with my own baby someday. Second favorite thing was a box of crayons and an interesting coloring book. Hours and hours of fun.
Gosh, I love that shark costume! My mom sewed all my costumes as a kid and she’s an excellent seamstress so I had some pretty nice costumes. Let’s see, my favorite toy… Probably my American Girl Doll, Kirsten. Didn’t get her until my 8th birthday but I loved that doll so much. I loved dolls, loved reading, and was a history fanatic, so combining all those 3 things was awesome for me. Plus my family heritage is mostly Swedish and Kirsten was Swedish too. My doll was the best dressed doll ever I think- my mom and her mother sewed SO many outfits and made so many things for her. She even had a tiny handmade quilt made just for her, a bed, trunk, baskets weaved for her, even little bitty food that my grandma made for her out of clay that she fired. I insisted that everything Kirsten had be historically accurate too. I still have my doll and all her paraphernalia!
One of my favorite toys when I was little was a ballerina babydoll and when you turned the crown on top of her head she would twirl 🙂
