It’s that time of year again.

Cotton is in bloom…

Apples are being picked

and the last bit of summer is ours for the taking!

and MAYBE sharing.. 🙂

But you know what else is right around the corner? It’s time to start thinking about our Halloween and Harvest costumes! I’ve recently been introduced to a wonderful company called Sensational Beginnings. They are a toy company that offers educational toys, that stimulate the imagination, the mind, and the senses!I don’t know about you, but if I had a dime for every time I spent money on plastic toys that barely outlived the life of the cardboard box they came in, I’d be a wealthy woman today!

I love the toys at Sensational Beginnings and I know you and your child will, too.

As a special offer JUST to Southern Plate readers,

Sensational Beginnings is offering a 10% Discount on all orders over $75.00 through September 20th, at 11:59 PM.

To get this exclusive discount, enter the code SOUTHERNPLATE at checkout. Click here to shop.

I always like to start buying Christmas the moment fall hits and I get it a little at a time to make it more budget friendly, so this is a great opportunity for you to do that.

They also have an EXTENSIVE Costume department. Katy Rose was thrilled when she first laid eyes on this pink super girl costume:

We rounded it out with the Strawberry Shortcake Wig. Of course is Super Girl is Super, it only stands to reason that she’d have pink hair (according to my Katy Rose).

Bradybug will be going the Deluxe Iron Man route this year…

Even though I REALLY tried to talk him into this one – if it was in my size I’d soooooooo be wearing it!

In addition to offering us an exclusive discount code, Sensational Beginnings is also offering an exclusive giveaway!

TEN Lucky Southern Plate Family Members

will each receive a $50.00 Gift Certificate to

  1. My baby girls most favorite toy is her easel, the artist in her at the tender age of 3 is amazing… she can spell and draw and it is truly wonderful to see the creativity blooming in her tender life… while there are so many toys, the hands and imagination are so great especially for the day we live in… Thank you for the post and great site…

  2. I had a doll that had 3 faces (sleep, crying, awake). It had an outfit with a hood to hide the 2 faces. Once on a train trip with Grannie, she told me to sit down and be quiet. I picked up my doll and turned it to the crying face. The conductor was beside our seats and laughed. I still have that doll which is almost 60 yrs.
    Thanks for the memories.

  3. My favorite toy was my life-sized baby doll. I was an only child and that doll kept me company during many lonely hours. She was not only my baby, but my sister. I prayed every night for a large family and my prayers were answered when I was married. My husband had 3 girls, I had 2 boys and then we had a son. Two years later (when I was 27) there were 22 of us when we began a home for foster children. So I learned a valuable lesson–be careful what you pray for– you just might get it!!!!

  4. My favorite toy as a child was a cabbage patch doll. I mainly like how clean they smelled, all the little trinkets that came with them, such as a bottle, hair clips, mini diapers, etc.. My mom went to a store called Romance at the time in NJ and waited overnight for one for my sister and one for me. It was the best toy, doll a little girl could want.

  5. My favorite toy when I was a little girl (moons ago) was my Barbie. I played and played with her. I still have her! Just could not part with her, EVER! Christy, is that vegetable stand in the pictures you shared the one between Athens and Madison by any chance? Looks like the one we use to frequent when we lived in Elkmont.

  6. My son is 5 and his favorite toy is woody from toy story, The first woody he got was no store bought woody but a hand-me-down from his sister and he has slept with it almost every night since he had it, at his birthday party he recently got a brand new woody doll and it made his day so now he tucks them both into bed at night 🙂
