It’s that time of year again.

Cotton is in bloom…

Apples are being picked

and the last bit of summer is ours for the taking!

and MAYBE sharing.. 🙂

But you know what else is right around the corner? It’s time to start thinking about our Halloween and Harvest costumes! I’ve recently been introduced to a wonderful company called Sensational Beginnings. They are a toy company that offers educational toys, that stimulate the imagination, the mind, and the senses!I don’t know about you, but if I had a dime for every time I spent money on plastic toys that barely outlived the life of the cardboard box they came in, I’d be a wealthy woman today!

I love the toys at Sensational Beginnings and I know you and your child will, too.

As a special offer JUST to Southern Plate readers,

Sensational Beginnings is offering a 10% Discount on all orders over $75.00 through September 20th, at 11:59 PM.

To get this exclusive discount, enter the code SOUTHERNPLATE at checkout. Click here to shop.

I always like to start buying Christmas the moment fall hits and I get it a little at a time to make it more budget friendly, so this is a great opportunity for you to do that.

They also have an EXTENSIVE Costume department. Katy Rose was thrilled when she first laid eyes on this pink super girl costume:

We rounded it out with the Strawberry Shortcake Wig. Of course is Super Girl is Super, it only stands to reason that she’d have pink hair (according to my Katy Rose).

Bradybug will be going the Deluxe Iron Man route this year…

Even though I REALLY tried to talk him into this one – if it was in my size I’d soooooooo be wearing it!

In addition to offering us an exclusive discount code, Sensational Beginnings is also offering an exclusive giveaway!

TEN Lucky Southern Plate Family Members

will each receive a $50.00 Gift Certificate to

  1. Believe it or not my favorite toy was my brother’s electric train. I could watch it run for hours. It totally fascinated me going round and round with the lights glowing and the whistle blowing. He would get so mad because I was always in his way ( which is probabaly the real reason I liked it so LOL).

  2. My favorite toys were dolls…from a 3 ft. Pollyanna doll, to a Betsy McCall bride doll, to Chatty Cathy, and then a Barbie (just one which had red hair and a boufant hairdo!). My daughter got the Barbie, along with the one my sister had, and a few others along the way. I had a Ken doll too, but don’t know what in the world happened to him! Said daughter is expecting her first baby (a girl) next week. Feeling blessed!

  3. christy. my favorite toy was a sock monkey that my grandma made me. we didnt have alot of money so we got home made toys., its been 50 some years now and i still have that old sock monkey. I also had a rag doll that was as tall as i was and it had elastic on the feet that went over my shoes so i could dance with it. I let my granddaughter play with the monkey, she thinks it great too. I still think homemade gifts are still the best. Tell Katy Rose i think she will look great as Super girl as well as Brady will look good as iron man. your kids are just cute as can be.

  4. Christy,

I have started my Christmas shopping, too. My husband says where are you going to put it, but I always find a place. My boys are older and I know sizes, their interests and when I find a great deal, I jump on it. Like you said, it helps to spread the finances out!!

I loved my Barbies as a child. I had Barbie and Skipper and I believe her name was Chrissy (Barbie’s little sister) and her ?cousin Francie. My Mother kept all of these for when I had a daughter (have 2 boys) so now we are hoping that one day my boys will have a daughter. Barbie was very popular when I was a little girl. I did cut one of the dolls hair, and one Barbie had wigs that you could change!!! Oh, this does bring back memories. My Mother made some of the Barbie clothes.

I love those Halloween costumes!! This looks like a great place to shop! This is a great deal!

  5. Christy, I LOVE these walks down “memory lane” with you and friends at SouthernPlate! 🙂 From the time I was about 6 years old, I asked for a new pair of roller skates every year for my birthday! I wore them out in a year and so by the next birthday, I was ready for a new pair! These were the kind that you had a skate key to fasten the skates to your shoes. So, you had to wear shoes that had a pretty thick sole on them….not tennis shoes! Now, the kids(my grandchildren!) do roller blading……….dear Lord, I’d break somethin’ for sure with those!

Tell Katy Rose that I think Super Girl needs pink hair, too! She’s a sweet girl after my own heart………..everything HAS to match…… doesn’t it? 😉

    Shari

  6. I remember making paper dolls and cutting their cloths out of the catalog. So when i recieved a doll I was so happy.. You could turn a knob and it made several faces.
