There’s no need to have an ordinary ham and cheese sandwich when it’s so quick and easy to make a batch of these ham and Swiss sliders. They’re prepped and ready to eat in just over 30 minutes.

So, what is a ham and Swiss slider? Well, as the name suggests, it includes cooked deli ham and Swiss cheese slices layered on a packet of deliciously soft Hawaiian rolls. But then you add a buttery sauce on top that’s bursting with flavor. We’re talking melted butter, dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, dried onion, poppy seeds, and salt and pepper. You pour this over the Hawaiian roll sliders and then bake them in the oven. The end result is a stack of deliciously sweet and juicy ham and Swiss sliders. These ham and cheese sliders are great for a weekend lunch, to take to a party or potluck, or to serve at your next game day. It’s a crowd-pleasing recipe for sure.

How to Make Ham and Swiss Hawaiian Roll Sliders

Slice Hawaiian rolls in half.

Preheat oven to 350F. Line a 9×9-inch or 9×13-inch pan with aluminum foil, spray with cooking spray, and set it aside.

Don’t separate or pull rolls apart. Instead, using a large knife, slice the rolls in half so you have a top layer and bottom layer to work on. Keep the rolls connected.

Place first layer of Swiss cheese on bottom layer of rolls.

Put the bottom layer in the pan and place the first layer of cheese on the rolls.

Top with ham.

Spread the ham over the rolls.

Add the second layer of cheese.

Add the top layer of rolls and set them aside.

Whisk remaining ingredients together.

Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or in a pot on top of the stove on very low heat.

Add the mustard, onion, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and stir/whisk that up to combine.

Pour butter mixture over Hawaiian roll sliders.

Pour the butter mix over the rolls and take your time.

Spread butter mixture over ham and Swiss sliders with brush or spatula.

Spread the butter mixture over the tops. A spatula or pastry brush works well. Some of the mixture will sit at the base of the rolls. That’s no problem.

Cover Hawaiian roll sliders with aluminum foil and bake.

Cover with aluminum foil and let the Hawaiian rolls sit at room temperature for a bit, usually 5 to 10 minutes.

Next, bake the covered ham and Swiss sliders for about 20 minutes or until cheese has melted.

Storage

These ham and Swiss sliders are best served warm and fresh. However, you can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Serve them cold or quickly reheat in the oven or air fryer.

Recipe Notes

  • For a different sauce, substitute the Worcestershire sauce for honey and add garlic powder and dried parsley. Alternatively, substitute the Worcestershire sauce for sweet pickle relish.
  • Instead of dijon mustard, you can use spicy brown mustard.
  • These don’t have to be Hawaiian roll sliders either. Use your preferred bread rolls of choice if you like.
  • Substitute the Swiss cheese for cheddar cheese, Colby Jack, Havarti, mozzarella cheese, or provolone.
  • You can use any type of deli ham, like honey ham or smoked ham. You can also swap the ham for sliced turkey if you prefer. If you add bacon as well, you can transform these into mini club sandwiches.
  • If you’re a fan of pickles, add a layer between the ham and cheese or add pickled jalapenos for some spice.

simple amazing recipe! i have learned that aside from the butter and a form of mustard you can add almost anything you like after that 🙂 but this base recipe is perfect as-is!

  3. I don’t know where you happen across these recipes, but I cannot wait to try these. I clicked on it because I have never heard of a slider (I’m in the UK) and wondered what they are, I’m looking forward to taking a batch of prepared ones to my son’s family on Sunday.
