I’m Going To Visit Sister Schubert!

I'm Going To Visit Sister Schubert!Last week my mother and I were talking about how it just makes a meal to walk into a house and smell bread baking. No matter what is served, a warm roll, generously smeared with a pat of butter is the perfect accompaniment to a home cooked meal.

But sometimes we don’t have time to bake that bread or sometimes we just want the convenience of having someone else I'm Going To Visit Sister Schubert!bake it for us – and every Southerner knows that is when Sister Schubert’s comes in!

Our little secret resides in the freezer case and brings those same smells and tastes to the supper table no matter how busy life gets.

I’ve noticed that no matter how long I work on the meal, it’s that filled bread basket that gets passed around the most.

Mama and I have used Sister Schubert’s rolls for years so you can imagine my delight to be invited to her house next week! Turns out, Sister is a fellow Alabamian, and I’m heading down to her place to spend some time in the kitchen cooking up some goodness. I’ll be sharing photos of my day with you on Facebook, Instagram, and even here in a post when I write about the fun I know we are going to have.

With families near and far preparing to gather together for special meals all through the holidays, fresh, warm bread from the oven can be the easiest thing you make. I’m so excited to be able to visit Sister’s house and bring y’all with me through my posts here and on my social media channels!

Get set to tune in for some special ideas to make your holiday meals easier.

In the meantime, you can learn more about Sister by visiting her at the links below. Be sure and tell her Christy from Southern Plate sent ya!

  1. An interesting story about Sister, in the south the eldest sister was frequently called “Sister”. However Sister Schubert was called Sister because when she was born, her older sister was unable to say Patricia. So Mamma just said “honey, just call her Sister”. Her older sis was a lovely lady that I met through a business meeting. Personal stories about people’s lives are always fun.

  2. That is so cool, Christy! We counted on them during the holidays and for various occasions so when we moved from my home state of NC to KY I was dreading not having them anymore. To be honest, I was dreading moving. Period. I miss lots of things from NC but to my surprise Sister Schubert rolls are up here! YUM!!

  3. …mmmmmmmm…I can smell the rolls baking now…we can get Sister Schubert rolls here in Ohio now, before I had to wait till I was in Tenny to get them! It’s great to use for very good dinner like you say when you run out of time to make homemade. Love them!

  4. Christy, I am so very excited for you….. she’s a southern institution, that’s for sure! When we have one of those spend-the-night guests, it’s always so fun to wake them to the smell of her sausage rolls! Take great notes and remember all the smells and flavors for us!
