Learning To Be A Happy Person Part 3 – Training Your Thoughts

In this week’s video I explain how I learned to control my thoughts and the importance of doing that.

More coming!

Bible Verses that support the teaching in this video:

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. ~Philippians 4:8

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. ~Colossians 3:2

Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ~1 Peter 1:13

The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart. ~Luke 6:45

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. ~Romans 12:2

  1. Thank you for doing this series (love that it is a video!) and for allowing the Lord to use your pain for good. This is coming at a perfect time for me. I am following along and going to write down these verses. Thank you, thank you.

  2. Yes! Being grateful is my life’s mission statement. After losing my dad, my mother said to me one day, “you know, Becky, I feel myself slipping. I’ve lost my husband, I’m losing my house, and what’s worse is that other widows my age who are losing husbands are financially set…for life!” I had to be HER parent that day as I heard myself say, ” Mom, I can’t tell you much but I know this…when we stop being thankful, it’s OVER.” It changed the direction of her life.
My family is not well off and probably will struggle until the last family member dies. But we have, as the song says, shoes on our feet and a fine family. Thank you, Lord, for your blessings on me. (Thank you, too, Christy!)

  3. You are spot on with Habit playing a big role in our thought process. My downward spiral started in 1998 and depression took over my life until around 2010. I pray that I never let it take over again. Daily Bible reading and Prayer are essential. Making your life about more than yourself is too. I love you. May God continue to bless you and lead you in all you do.

  4. Thank you Christy. It is so true that we must control our thoughts. I am doing
better now than I have in the past but I still have moments sometimes when I start
to feel sorry for myself….and think of the things that seem bad in my life. Usually
these thoughts come when I am having trouble sleeping or feel lonely or especially tired.
I may try the rubber band thing….but I think it is mostly, like you say, an exercise of
discipline….developing a habit. I enjoy your posts on FB and thank you for this series on how to be a happy
    person.

    1. Me, I am from Michigan originally. Lots of German influence in food.
Sausages, brats, knockwurst, etc. So, my favorite hot dogs are natural
casing dogs, they pop or snap when you bite into them. Hard to find in
NE Fl, where we settled 26 years ago. The place we used to get them
was/is called Koegel’s Meats our of Flint, Mi. Durn gooood dogs!

      1. well there I go again, I thought I was replying to your hot dog column.
A good dog will make anyone feel better though.

        1. haha, well I still see it, though. I read my comments on the back end of the blog so there is just a screen with nothing but the latest comments. If you hadn’t of pointed it out I would have figured your first comment was on the hot dog post and not even have noticed! 🙂
