Red, White, and Blue Spritzers!

With patriotic summer holidays coming up, I thought I’d show you a cute little way to make a layered Red White and Blue spritzer that will delight young and old alike – and not take any longer than it does to pour a regular drink!

Recipe Ingredients: Blue Gatorade, Sprite Zero or Diet 7-Up and Cranberry Juice Cocktail

A word about substitutions:

This is one of the few recipes I have that I ‘m gonna tell you it’s best not to make any substitutions. Why? Because I’ve tried them and they don’t work.

Blue Kool-Aid? Nope, tried it and it didn’t work.
Regular Sprite or 7-Up? Nope, tried it and it didn’t work.
Lower Calorie Cranberry Juice? Nope, tried it and it didn’t work.

And don’t even think about using the new G2 Gatorade. As much as I am a fan of it, it won’t work.

You really need these three things in particular to layer because each of these liquids have a density slightly lighter than the layer beneath it but heaver than the one on top of it.

That is what makes this work so well :).

Fill your glasses with ice.

Ice is important here because when we pour our liquids that ice serves as a breakwater to help keep our layers separated.

Add in your first layer, which is cranberry juice cocktail.

Slowly pour the blue gatorade over the ice in each glass.

Hi. I think this is a great one in the mason jar glasses so cute! I am curious if it has any diet drink with the diet sprite after taste? I read absolutely no submitting any other then the 3 listed as they won’t work. I’m just wondering if the other flavors cancel out any diet taste and that would be Soo awesome. Excited to try!! Kids will like them no matter.

These drinks would be a festive addition to the 4th of July beverage table. I appreciate the careful warning to use only the actual ingredients in the original recipe and not try any substitutions. No one like to waste money and time on a recipe that fails.

    3. These spritzers look so refreshing besides the patriotic colors! So many holidays can be enjoyed with these drinks. Thank you so much for the clever ideas!

    4. This really looks refreshing! I need to run out and pick up some cranberry juice and seltzer, can’t wait to try! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for saying why substitutions will not work on this. It makes sense. I have all but the blue here. This would be good too, and will add to my online recipe file, for holidays. Also, will add the cake ones too.

    6. I love the you indicated what substitutions just won’t work. These drinks are lovely and look so refreshing. I’ve never tasted Gatorade (although I’ve spent a fortune on it–for my kids), nor do I drink diet soda. I do love cranberry juice. Maybe I’ll try this recipe; my family would be impressed.
