Happy Birthday to the Southern Plate Cookbook!

Today marks the one year anniversary of the official release of my book, and what a wonderful year it has been! I really put my heart into this book and I am so very grateful to everyone who has taken it into their homes and made a place for it in their hearts as well. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and support. I am so very blessed to have you as part of the Southern Plate Family!

In honor of today, I thought I’d share a couple of videos. The first is me talking a little bit about the book, with some cute appearances by my kids (not that I’m biased ~wink~), and the second is the video of me seeing my book for the first time and sharing that experience with you!

I’ve gotten to travel around the country, do lots of fun local and national tv appearances, and even film with Paula Deen (whose quote appears on the cover of my book). It’s been a fun ride but I can’t imagine having taken it without you!

Here are some fun posts from last year around the time my book debuted:

So I think I need to celebrate today.

I feel like I should make a cake but more importantly I’d love to celebrate with you.

If you have the book, please leave a comment below

(If you don’t have the book, I’d still love to hear from ya!)

Tell me your favorite recipe or story from the book or if there was something in particular that struck a chord with you.

I’d love for you to share your heart with us in the comments!

 Maybe we should sing…

**Important Note: Please note that all dates at the bottom of these posts are from last year. I’m not doing a tour this year but I’d love for you to come to my Holiday Cooking show in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on November 10! We’re so excited about this year’s Holiday Cooking Show. It will feature a marketplace you can walk through ahead of time to browse, shop, and try all sorts of wonderful samples. After that, everyone will come into the auditorium for my cooking show and DOOR PRIZES GALORE! The great thing about this show is that after I finish preparing each item on stage, the UNA Culinary students will be coming out in the audience to give everyone a sample of what I just made! So we’ll visit, laugh, eat, laugh some more, and just have a wonderful evening together. This year also adds a child’s ticket price as well so bring the kiddies because I’ve got some special surprises in store for them! This is the only cooking show I’ll be doing so make plans to come on out and be sure and purchase your tickets today by clicking here. This is entirely a volunteer effort. All proceeds benefit the University of North Alabama HES Department.

  1. I love, love, love my autographed cookbook. I am a cookbook reader and have enjoyed reading the recipes – many of which remind me of those I make for my family, recipes passed down through my family. I have made many of your recipes and have many more I want to try.
Thank you for the wonderful cookbook, your daily emails, and Facebook posts.

  2. I can’t believe it’s been a year already. I take very good care of my cookbook and it has a special place in our kitchen. Was really touched when you mailed out your autograph, so that’s inside the cover too.
Just one quick question, when is book number 2 coming out?

  3. Happy Birthday Southern Plate! I am sooo happy with the recipes in your book…the book stays right in my kitchen because I use the recipes almost every day. My hubby wants chicken planks frequently…and macaroni & cheese….and biscuits (oh thank goodness for your biscuits…they always come out soooo delicious). Everyday cooking -easy and delicious: thanks for sharing life’s stories and great Southern recipes.

  4. My family loves the chicken dressing in the crockpot. We add the sides and cranberry sauce and have a Sunday dinner. Sooo good!

  5. I have two copies. One for the kitchen and one for my bedside table. Yes, I love to read cookbooks. Only very special cookbooks make it into the bedroom. (Yours and our 2 church cookbooks) Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  6. I pre-ordered your wonderful cookbook last year from Amazon and had to leave Arkansas on 3 Oct for 2 weeks in New Jersey for a work assignment. My husband told me that my book had arrived at the end of that first week and I just couldn’t stand it – I was so far from home, my cookbook was waiting for me and it was going to be another week before I could sit down with it. Over the weekend I found a bookstore at one of the malls and asked if they had your book. They did and I stood there and browsed through it, just to get a little peek at what was in store for me when I got home. It was great!
I love that it’s so much more than a cookbook – it’s a narrative on life in the South. You paint pictures with your words that bring so many memories to mind. I laughed, I cried, I identified with so many things that you wrote about.
I’ve tried so many of the recipes – as a matter of fact Jordan Rolls are now a staple at our table. I took them to a church function last night. Pecan Pie Muffins are also a big hit.
Thank you for putting so much heart and soul into your work, and for how you continue to share your life with all of us. I’m partial to Southern authors and Southern cookbooks. Your book is a treasured part of my collection.
Love to you and your family!
