Happy Birthday to the Southern Plate Cookbook!
Today marks the one year anniversary of the official release of my book, and what a wonderful year it has been! I really put my heart into this book and I am so very grateful to everyone who has taken it into their homes and made a place for it in their hearts as well. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and support. I am so very blessed to have you as part of the Southern Plate Family!
In honor of today, I thought I’d share a couple of videos. The first is me talking a little bit about the book, with some cute appearances by my kids (not that I’m biased ~wink~), and the second is the video of me seeing my book for the first time and sharing that experience with you!

I’ve gotten to travel around the country, do lots of fun local and national tv appearances, and even film with Paula Deen (whose quote appears on the cover of my book). It’s been a fun ride but I can’t imagine having taken it without you!
Here are some fun posts from last year around the time my book debuted:
- The day my book went on sale, I held a little Scavenger hunt in my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. Click here for that post.**
- My very first book signing **
- A few photos from my cooking show at UNA last year (with links to watch videos)**

So I think I need to celebrate today.
I feel like I should make a cake but more importantly I’d love to celebrate with you.
If you have the book, please leave a comment below
(If you don’t have the book, I’d still love to hear from ya!)
Tell me your favorite recipe or story from the book or if there was something in particular that struck a chord with you.
I’d love for you to share your heart with us in the comments!
Maybe we should sing…
**Important Note: Please note that all dates at the bottom of these posts are from last year. I’m not doing a tour this year but I’d love for you to come to my Holiday Cooking show in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on November 10! We’re so excited about this year’s Holiday Cooking Show. It will feature a marketplace you can walk through ahead of time to browse, shop, and try all sorts of wonderful samples. After that, everyone will come into the auditorium for my cooking show and DOOR PRIZES GALORE! The great thing about this show is that after I finish preparing each item on stage, the UNA Culinary students will be coming out in the audience to give everyone a sample of what I just made! So we’ll visit, laugh, eat, laugh some more, and just have a wonderful evening together. This year also adds a child’s ticket price as well so bring the kiddies because I’ve got some special surprises in store for them! This is the only cooking show I’ll be doing so make plans to come on out and be sure and purchase your tickets today by clicking here. This is entirely a volunteer effort. All proceeds benefit the University of North Alabama HES Department.
Christy, love , love , love your cookbook !!!! I was at your Nashville signing and enjoyed meeting and listening to you !! I use your cookbook all the time and recommend it to all my friends. Thanks a bunch 🙂
Christy, I have your book & hope to someday meet you to get your autograph in it. By the way, i made your chicken planks last nite. I have tried every way possible except w/ regular saltine crackers! Your recipe is a keeper! Everyone in my family chowed down on them. Thank you so much for your recipes & stories. Keep up the good work. Gale
Happy 1 year anniversary SP cookbook! Congratulations on the success, Christy! Your cookbook proudly sits next to the handwritten recipe books given to me by my mom and grandma for my wedding. LOVE it!! I’m not sure you understand how grateful we are to be able to be part of your family. Thanks for all the kind words, funny stories, and out of this world food that you share with us.
I use the book all the time! To make all my cookbooks more personal, I always write comments by each recipe that I make. Hopefully, this will be appreciated by future generations.
I bought your book last year and since then I have used a LOT of the recipes, used them all year for family occasions and for carry-ins to work. This has been such a special year for you with so many blessings. I have your cookbook on a stand in my kitchen for quick reference and have shown or talked about it to everyone. I just want to thank you for the blessings you have given me/us by sharing your family stories and recipes that take us back to our own family memories of gathering around the table for a meal made with love.
I love all the family stories in your cookbook! fact is, they have made me venture out of my comfort zone and feed my husband things he said no way to until he tried them! Thank you so much for the sunshine you birng into my day
Happy Happy to you and your cookbook. God tells us he will give us the desires of our heart — he did/does and you’re living proof of that promise. I just completed a huge motorhome rally as rally master. I gave your cookbook to those who helped me with the rally. Wanted them to know what we eat down here in the South and how to make it.
Thanks and God Bless You!!!
