Happy Birthday to the Southern Plate Cookbook!
Today marks the one year anniversary of the official release of my book, and what a wonderful year it has been! I really put my heart into this book and I am so very grateful to everyone who has taken it into their homes and made a place for it in their hearts as well. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and support. I am so very blessed to have you as part of the Southern Plate Family!
In honor of today, I thought I’d share a couple of videos. The first is me talking a little bit about the book, with some cute appearances by my kids (not that I’m biased ~wink~), and the second is the video of me seeing my book for the first time and sharing that experience with you!

I’ve gotten to travel around the country, do lots of fun local and national tv appearances, and even film with Paula Deen (whose quote appears on the cover of my book). It’s been a fun ride but I can’t imagine having taken it without you!
Here are some fun posts from last year around the time my book debuted:
- The day my book went on sale, I held a little Scavenger hunt in my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. Click here for that post.**
- My very first book signing **
- A few photos from my cooking show at UNA last year (with links to watch videos)**

So I think I need to celebrate today.
I feel like I should make a cake but more importantly I’d love to celebrate with you.
If you have the book, please leave a comment below
(If you don’t have the book, I’d still love to hear from ya!)
Tell me your favorite recipe or story from the book or if there was something in particular that struck a chord with you.
I’d love for you to share your heart with us in the comments!
Maybe we should sing…
**Important Note: Please note that all dates at the bottom of these posts are from last year. I’m not doing a tour this year but I’d love for you to come to my Holiday Cooking show in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on November 10! We’re so excited about this year’s Holiday Cooking Show. It will feature a marketplace you can walk through ahead of time to browse, shop, and try all sorts of wonderful samples. After that, everyone will come into the auditorium for my cooking show and DOOR PRIZES GALORE! The great thing about this show is that after I finish preparing each item on stage, the UNA Culinary students will be coming out in the audience to give everyone a sample of what I just made! So we’ll visit, laugh, eat, laugh some more, and just have a wonderful evening together. This year also adds a child’s ticket price as well so bring the kiddies because I’ve got some special surprises in store for them! This is the only cooking show I’ll be doing so make plans to come on out and be sure and purchase your tickets today by clicking here. This is entirely a volunteer effort. All proceeds benefit the University of North Alabama HES Department.
Love your cookbook! Especially enjoyed all the family stories. I read cookbooks just like I would a novel. Will have to admit I don’t use recipes much. Have been cooking on my own so many years that it is not necessary. Anyhow, you’re one of my favorite people even though we have never met. We do live in neighboring states. So take care. Love the pictures of your kids also.
Only one year! Congratulations on the incredible success in such a short length of time. My mom and dad gave me the book for Christmas last year which makes it even more special to me. Mom made sure she got a signed copy. These are the recipes I grew up with, too. My husband is from Ohio and I assured his mom that he LOVES Southern cooking and Southern women. I gave her a copy of the book and she has tried several recipes.
I love this cookbook. It contains simple “old-timey” recipes like my mother used to make.
Congratulations Christy! I love your cookbook! What a great year!!
I don’t have your cookbook yet. I bought it for my sister for Christmas last year.
I bought the cookbook late last year with birthday monies from a girlfriend. All the recipes are great. I enjoy the website for anything new. Thanks, for all your efforts to keep us well fed!Congratulations on the one year anniversary of the cookbook and your new title with Southern Living. Keep up the good work!
Happy 1st birthday! I absolutely love your cookbook. This is my most favorite of the many that I own. When I first got your book in the mail I couldnt put it down I read this like it was a novel. I love how you make us all feel like we are part of your family and it feels like we are right there with you. I also love the part about reading about your grandfather. My grandfather was my whole world and I still miss him dearly, just like you. But I love your book as a whole and will always treasure it! Thanks Christy for everything that you do, you are truely an inspiration to us all. So looking forward to the many more cookbooks in your future. Much love and Hugs!
