Happy Birthday to the Southern Plate Cookbook!
Today marks the one year anniversary of the official release of my book, and what a wonderful year it has been! I really put my heart into this book and I am so very grateful to everyone who has taken it into their homes and made a place for it in their hearts as well. I cannot thank you enough for your kind words and support. I am so very blessed to have you as part of the Southern Plate Family!
In honor of today, I thought I’d share a couple of videos. The first is me talking a little bit about the book, with some cute appearances by my kids (not that I’m biased ~wink~), and the second is the video of me seeing my book for the first time and sharing that experience with you!

I’ve gotten to travel around the country, do lots of fun local and national tv appearances, and even film with Paula Deen (whose quote appears on the cover of my book). It’s been a fun ride but I can’t imagine having taken it without you!
Here are some fun posts from last year around the time my book debuted:
- The day my book went on sale, I held a little Scavenger hunt in my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. Click here for that post.**
- My very first book signing **
- A few photos from my cooking show at UNA last year (with links to watch videos)**

So I think I need to celebrate today.
I feel like I should make a cake but more importantly I’d love to celebrate with you.
If you have the book, please leave a comment below
(If you don’t have the book, I’d still love to hear from ya!)
Tell me your favorite recipe or story from the book or if there was something in particular that struck a chord with you.
I’d love for you to share your heart with us in the comments!
 Maybe we should sing…
**Important Note: Please note that all dates at the bottom of these posts are from last year. I’m not doing a tour this year but I’d love for you to come to my Holiday Cooking show in Muscle Shoals, Alabama on November 10! We’re so excited about this year’s Holiday Cooking Show. It will feature a marketplace you can walk through ahead of time to browse, shop, and try all sorts of wonderful samples. After that, everyone will come into the auditorium for my cooking show and DOOR PRIZES GALORE! The great thing about this show is that after I finish preparing each item on stage, the UNA Culinary students will be coming out in the audience to give everyone a sample of what I just made! So we’ll visit, laugh, eat, laugh some more, and just have a wonderful evening together. This year also adds a child’s ticket price as well so bring the kiddies because I’ve got some special surprises in store for them! This is the only cooking show I’ll be doing so make plans to come on out and be sure and purchase your tickets today by clicking here. This is entirely a volunteer effort. All proceeds benefit the University of North Alabama HES Department.
I heard about you in Southern Living, and while I was glad to learn of your cookbook, I was sad that I missed when you came through Austin! I bought the cookbook, and caught my husband reading it. He really enjoyed the southern stories in between sections. We’re from the northwestern Alabama area (both of us graduated from UNA) and your book brought back a lot of memories of family gatherings and church fellowship dinners.
Love your cookbook! Takes me back to my grandmother’s kitchen. Hoe cakes, fried bologna sandwiches with cheese & potato chips! Of course mac n cheese. My kids really liked the homemade lemon aide! Hope that you plan on more cookbooks in the future? My grandparents and parents were hard working people too and you always had to eat something when you stopped by. Thanks for bringing fond memories into this book!
Christy, since I am from Fayetteville,Tn many of your recipes are like what I grew up with and still use till this day. I go to your cookbook frequently and am so glad that you have made your mark as a good southern cook.

Love your cookbook Christy! My daughter came to the house right after I received your book. I mentioned that I had a new cookbook that I really liked. When she saw it was yours, she grabbed it, saying she’d heard about it. She immediately got on my laptop and ordered her own copy. Your book is still out on my desk in the kitchen,; it hasn’t made it to the shelves yet to sit with the other cookbooks.
Christy, your video made me laugh and cry. I love your cookbook – and use it all the time. I’m looking so forward to your second one! but I can’t imagine that it can be any better than the firstl 🙂
I first saw your book at Northeast Alabama Community College library and checked it out and after looking at it decided I had to have a copy for myself. It has really great recipies. Will there be a sequel to this one?
Congratulations Christy! I cannot believe it has been a year since I got my cookbook or should I say was waiting before hand on a pre-order. I got mine and went back and ordered each of my daughter’s one for Christmas presents. We have cooked many things out of the book so far but it seems like it was just yesterday we got it. We love everything we have tried and it’s such an easy to use book and I love the stories they make me feel right at home. I can only say I am waiting with such reward on the second cookbook to come out. I also want to congratulate you on your Southern Living deal. Again Congratulations! Your family friend, Kay
