Thanksgiving Menu Idea Bonanza!

Santa PhotoI sure am looking forward to the holidays and hope you are, too! I’ve decided to take a little time away from the internet and spend it focusing exclusively on my family for the next week. I’m going to miss y’all terribly but my kids are growing up so fast that I just want to enjoy them during this special time of year. While I’m away, I hope you’ll enjoy the following recipes, some of my favorites at Thanksgiving. If you have any questions just leave them here in the comments and I’m sure one of our other Southern Plate Family members will pop in and help you out!
Bless you all for all that you have given me. I’ll see you next week and until then, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Gratefully,
Christy

Help Support Our Troops!

A while back I heard of several service members who are currently overseas and desperately in need of mail and care packages. You’ve no idea what a boost this is to their morale. I mentioned it on the Southern Plate Family Page on Facebook and received many offers of folks asking for addresses and also more addresses of service members who would love to benefit from your kindness. If you’d like to adopt a service member overseas, please send an email to service@southernplate.com and let me know. After Thanksgiving I’ll email you an address of a service member who is currently serving and would like to receive mail and/or packages. Also, if you have or are a service member who would like to receive cards/packages from a Southern Plate family member, please send your address to service@southernplate.com.

“A Child Who Needs Me”

We had a WONDERFUL experience this past weekend, and it’s all thanks to you. Back in September when I sold the Bountiful Baskets, I wanted to do something special with the proceeds but wasn’t sure what just yet. This past Saturday my family and I went and bought two brand new bicycles. I let Brady and Katy each pick out one so of course we ended up with a boy bike and a girl bike!

We then went and donated them to Toys For Tots at their kickoff event. It meant so very much to me to be able to do that and to see my kids so willing to give. I honestly thought Katy Rose would have a hard time handing over the bike but she was just as willing as Brady, even asking me “Mama, can play with the kids who get this bicycle?”. It was a wonderful experience and I know my kids will always take that with them and remember it. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the holidays!

Thank you so much for giving that to me and my family, I will always be grateful.

This year, as you look over your Christmas list, I encourage you to pencil in, up at the very top, “A Child Who Needs Me”. Then be sure you check them off your list and donate your toy, knowing that some child you will never know is going to get to feel a little more love because of your giving heart. I know times are tight but Mama always said that its times like these that we all need to come up with a way to give just a little bit more to someone else.

It comes back to you, I promise.

There is always something to be grateful for.

Gratefully,

Christy 🙂

Do It Anyway

People are often unreasonable,
illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of
Selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some
False friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
Someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
They may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
People will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis,
It is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway.
