Top 10 Recipes of [year]
What a wonderful year we’ve had here on SouthernPlate! I’ve so enjoyed getting to hear about you and your families, share my family with you, and come together each day at our little virtual supper table. The Southern Plate Facebook page and Instagram have grown drastically and our Front Porch Fellowship Group, where we’ve recently started our daily scripture reading plan, is thriving.
It’s been a great blessing having you in my life and I want to thank you for the honor of letting me be a small part of yours. Today, as we wind up the year, I thought I’d share the posts from 2017 that y’all loved the most. I hope you find a new favorite among the list and if you do, be sure and come back and tell me! 2018 holds more meals together, more conversation, and more time spent connecting with those dearest to us. Wishing you an abundance of blessings in that and more!
Now let us dive right in!
Coming in at number 1 is:
 Soft Sandwich Style Hawaiian Bread
This is a favorite of my husband and kids alike so I usually make at least two loaves on the days I bake it. They never last long.
The BEST Thousand Island I’ve Ever Tasted takes the prize of #2 – and the fact that the #2 recipe is a salad dressing on a Southern cooking site really says a LOT about this dressing!
This delicious bread comes in at #3 with little surprise. It tastes as wonderful as it looks!
Old Fashioned Fruit Cocktail Cake
This brings back memories of my childhood and apparently many of y’all share similar memories. What a blessing!
This is a wonderful all around bread seasoning that has a myriad of purposes beyond that. Check out this post for instructions on making bread with it and check out my Zesty Chicken Tenders (a few recipes down) for another way to use it!
This chili sauce has been loved by my family since I was a little girl. Make hot dog night one of your favorite occasions! (Hint: make extra because it freezes beautifully)
This is a very special cake recipe that I developed after my husband and I fell in love with a $30 version at a local supermarket. Perfect for any special occasion – or just a wonderful day in your life.
VERY flavorful and finger licking good!
Grandmama’s Japanese Fruit Pie
Memories this pie brings back put a tear in my eye every time.
A fun recipe my mother and I whipped up with a dreamy, creamy, fruity taste that everyone loves!
And of course, I have to share the top 5 recipes of all time on SouthernPlate!
- Cheesy Chicken and Rice
- Dinner in a Dish

Hi Christy and Happy New Year! I wanted to thank you for the Stuffed Pepper Soup recipe. It’s simple and delicious and has become a family favorite. I’m especially enjoying it in this freezing weather Alabama is having! Take care and God Bless!
I love them all, but I’m first making your thousand island dressing (Grumpy’s fav). Do you know we are from the area where it originated from and have spent a lot of time in the Thousand Islands?? my fav on one this list is the chili dog sauce! I’m a huge fan of chili dogs!
Thank you Shelby, I hope you enjoy it!! Happy and Blessed New Year!
Happy New Year, Christy! I ALWAYS love to read your posts and have for several years. God’s blessings to you and your precious family in 2018! I look forward to seeing you in the Spring when you come my way. Thank you for always sharing your heart with us!
A Happy and Blessed New Year to you Pam!!!
Christy, you are my go-to for good food for my family; recipes are full flavor, yet simple ingredients and minimal fuss. Love that I have most ingredients on hand. Now, I have to let you know I made your caramel puff corn for some kid parties; all the foster kids in our county as well as several church parties. I think in total I made around 10 batches. HUGE hit with adults and kids alike. But unfortunately, I now have a new addiction…
Beth you just made my day!!
Christy, how about some instant pot recipies?
Hey Beth!
I do have an instant pot, it’s in my garage on a shelf. I found I mostly used it as a slow cooker so just went back to my slow cooker. I do have one iP recipe on SouthernPlate but will sure share more with y’all if I pull it out again! I’ll write that down in my idea book for upcoming posts and really appreciate the suggestion and inspiration!
What is an instant pot?
It is the appliance that everyone is raving about right now. It can be a pressure cooker, rice cooker, slow cooker, etc. I have one but used it for about a week and just went back to my trusty old slow cooker 🙂 It is a neat device, though!
I would love to see some of your recipes adapted to the Instant Pot. I just got one and am slowly learning how to use it.
sounds great, can” wait to try all of them.
Dear Friend. Look gal, while I enjoy your recipes, I worry that you do too much. You have a lot of pans in the fire and I don’t know how you get it all done and still keep your sanity. My wish for you in the coming year is that you slow down a bit. We will all be here when you have a day to send your delicious recipes. I also enjoy your monthly scripture plan and it is the first thing I read in the morning, just in case the day doesn’t go as I wish, it’s a wonderful reminder that if the day doesn’t improve, that tomorrow will be brighter. Take care, and slooooooow down a bit so you can enjoy your family first, and us second. Toodle and Love to You.
You said exactly what I was thinking. Between the cooking and videos and trips all over, and still taking care of her family, I don’t know how Christy does it all! Don’t burn yourself out, Christy!
Y’all are both very kind and I want to thank you for thinking so compassionately about me! I’m afraid you may be reading old posts when you envision me doing all of these things. I’ve had quite the run over the past ten years since starting Southern Plate and certainly have traveled a lot collectively in those ten years, done a good bit of tv, written three books, etc. Depending on what post you read, you may think I’m still in the middle of that.
But at this point I’ve pulled back from all of that and rarely travel anymore, don’t know the last time I agreed to a television appearance, and only have one work trip planned for four days in the next year. I agreed to that one because my son wanted to go with me so I figured it would be fun for us to do together. 🙂 These days I get up around 4 (I’m a morning person so this is my favorite time), have my coffee, read my Bible, get ready, work on Southern Plate, homeschool, and then by afternoon I’m working on my house, getting supper ready, and heading back to study my Bible. It is a blessed life and I am so grateful to be able to live it! Thank you for being here and I hope to still be chatting with you right up until I retire!
