Oreo Melting Snowman Balls

This post is sponsored by OREO, but all opinions and ramblings contained herein are my own. Lucky you ☺.

Today I’m making my family very happy because Oreo cookies are in my kitchen. This melting snowman Oreo ball recipe is great to make with kids as they can be creative and decorate the snowmen however they want. But it also makes me happy because this is a very low-fuss and low-mess project with results that look like I spent way more time on it than I actually did.

These precious little melting snowman Oreo balls are a cinch to make and I’m about to walk you through the process so make sure you don’t blink because you’ll miss it! You only need 3 main ingredients: Oreo cookies, cream cheese, and almond bark or white chocolate. The first step is to make the snowman Oreo balls by combining cream cheese and Oreo cookie crumbs. They’re like Oreo truffles, so good! Then we need to add the “melting moment” by covering the ball, on top of an Oreo cookie, with white chocolate.

Then your kids can step in and decorate their snowmen. I’ve included directions and ingredients below to make them like this, as well as other suggestions. Perhaps your snowman wants an edible hat, for example? That’s all there is to it. Told ya these snowman Oreo cookie balls were too easy to make. I hope you and your family have time to make a batch this festive season.

ingredients for snowman Oreo balls.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Holiday OREO cookies
  • White almond bark (or white chocolate/vanilla chips/white baking chips)
  • Cream cheese (check out my easy homemade cream cheese recipe)
  • Decorations: for me, that means miniature chocolate chips, red gel icing, and some sour candy strips to cut into nose shapes.

How to Make Snowman Oreo Balls

Combine Oreo cookie crumbs and cream cheese in mixing bowl.

To make these, it’s really simple.

First, take 9 of the Oreo cookies out and place them in a zipper seal bag, then commence pulverizing those. You want them broken up as finely as possible so your finished snowmen will be smooth.

Another option is to use a food processor.

Take this mixture and put it in a mixing bowl with 3 tablespoons of cream cheese. Beat that with an electric mixer until it is well mixed and smooth.

Roll into balls.

Roll the cookie dough into 15 little balls.

To make your life easier, use a 1-inch cookie dough scoop to shape the balls.

Little side note: OREO cookies and cream cheese is now my new favorite flavor. Who knew something so simple could be so amazing?

Coat balls in melted chocolate.

Melt your chocolate coating (usually called candy coating or almond bark on the package) by placing it in a microwave-safe bowl in one-minute increments, stirring after each, until melted and smooth.

Add drop of chocolate to center of Oreo cookie and place coated ball on top.

I have found that if I put just a dollop of melted candy coating on the cookie first, the “melted snowman effect” is much cuter.

Dip each ball into the chocolate and then place it on top of an OREO cookie, allowing the chocolate to drop off of the ball and pool on top of the cookie.

While still wet, stick the candies of your choice on to form a face. I used orange strip candy (sour airheads I think) for noses, mini chocolate chips for eyes, and fine line icing (that comes in a little tube) for the mouth.

I finished by sprinkling them with clear decorating crystals.

Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Keep refrigerated… so they don’t melt for real!

Tada! These little guys are so cute!

Storage

  • Store Oreo snowman balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
  • You can also freeze them for up to 2 months. Thaw them in the fridge overnight before serving.

Recipe Notes

  • Now, I’m using holiday Oreo cookies, but you can use any flavor you want. Peppermint or golden Oreos would also work great!
  • How to easily dip the Oreo cookie balls: Use a toothpick or fork to dip the cookie balls into the melted white chocolate. Shake off the excess chocolate then place it on the waxed paper. This may leave just a small hole on top that can be covered with a tiny dab of chocolate.
  • If you’d prefer to make a double-stacked snowman instead of a melting snowman, make a double batch of the recipe and place a 1-inch cookie dough ball on a 2-inch cookie dough ball to make the snowman. Continue with the remaining instructions, like coating them both in the white chocolate before decorating. You probably won’t need the extra cookie base though.

Recipe FAQs

An Oreo snowball is an easy no-bake treat made with Oreo cookies and cream cheese. Basically, this recipe but without the chocolate and decorations. They’re the perfect holiday or year-round treat.

How else can I decorate my snowman Oreo balls?

Oh, I’m so glad you asked. Here are some suggestions:

  • Use black decorating icing to pipe on the eyes and mouth.
  • Use orange icing or one individual orange sprinkle for the nose.
  • Add a mini Oreo cookie on an angle as a hat. Just add a dot of chocolate on the back so it sticks to the snowman’s head.
  • Other hat options include Rolo candies or mini Reese’s cups.
